Update: Kickstarter campaign is launched!
Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler.
Albert Einstein
Back in March, like many others, I started taking a lot of video calls from home. For better picture quality, I connected my Sony a6000 camera as a webcam, but periodically changing and charging the batteries obviously became a nuisance.
I looked into alternatives and I couldn’t believe that I needed to buy yet another black box of electronic waste: I think I have enough already!
On the other side I already had plenty of USB-PD chargers and two USB-PD power banks that could provide enough power, if only they could be connected with the camera.
So, instead of polluting the planet and cluttering my desk and apartment, I designed an adapter to be used with a dummy battery (surprisingly it didn’t already exist) and had it manufactured.
While it fully solves my needs, it is not a finished product: a simple solution would not include any adapters or DC barrel plugs. So the next version will simply have a dummy battery on one end and a USB-C plug on the other.
Do you want one? Let me know what kind of camera you have; if that model will be supported, I will send you a USB-C dummy battery to beta-test (while supplies last). I’ll follow up on the shipping address over email before sending.
[Update from June 21]: We’ve collected enough volunteers for the current round of beta-testing. I still invite you to fill in the form below for possible next rounds, but don’t expect an fast response.
[Update from October 2]: Kickstarter campaign is launched! Please ask questions and contact me there.
